Thanks Dave,

As a simple replacement for READ and then Record ID. Just the format name. Seems it would be tough to test a field in the record w/o knowing what format was found.

PM:
What is best practice to eliminate I Specs and Record ID Indicators on a
READ.

I have a logical file that has 10 formats. What is the best way to
READ that file and determine what format I have on each READ?

Apologies ahead of time if this is so simple, yet I couldn't see it.

The answer depends upon whether the different record formats are
identified by their record format name, or they are identified by values
found in the data record itself.

Sincerely,

Dave Clark
