It also applies to regular records, not just Sub-file. I built a 132 col help screen that will not compile because it thinks the fields are overlapping, if the fields are long enough that on an 80 col record they would be overlapping, but on 132 they do not. Until I remove any data occupying col 80. Then it compiles fine. Not sure if there is a keyword I can add to this to record to placate the compiler into not giving errors. Either don't use 132 col records or don't use col 80.

That is quite interesting, thanks. Putting the *DS3 SFLPAG(06) in addition to SFLPAG(15) does allow it to get past the halt. I will try it when I can replace an in use display file.

I still find it strange that I don't get the error as long as I have a field that does not span col 80, but don't get the error for any fields above col 80. Like they only tested col 80 for size error, not beyond. The language indicates that this condition will happen to fields that span 80 and go above.

They could add as a last effort work-around would be to not have a field that spans 80 - but above 80 is fine.

Thanks Kevin and Chris.

I think you are running into the problem described here. https://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=nas8N1016277

Thanks Chris,

There is this at the file level. Since 132 is first, that is the default.
DSPSIZ(27 132 *DS4
24 80 *DS3)

Unless the record is 80 col, I do not specify at the record level.

Not to mention, all starting positions specified after col 80 are fine. So it does not issue the warning if fields are specified beyond 80 positions, just AT 80 positions.

"Hiebert, Chris" <chris.hiebert@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> 2/15/2019 9:43 AM

Did you make sure the display file only contained the DSPSIZ for 132?
DSPSIZ(27 132 *DS4)

If you had the DSPSIZ for 80, then try to remove that and see if you still get the original error.
DSPSIZ(24 80 *DS3)

Subject: 132 Display File oddness

Good Day

An interesting gotcha that kept me occupied for an embarrassing amount of time.

I have a SFL display file that uses 132 pos wide display. I have 2 sub files and 1 kept getting an error saying the PAGVAL() was too large. Even though they were almost identical.

After some time, I found that if there is a field that spans col 80, even if there are fields after that, it will give the PAGVAL halt.

So I changed the field to not be in that position and no halt. I suppose it is the boundary between an 80 col and 132 and may have control char.

Strange.
