You have mentioned that
A "Y" status is when it errors out and did not complete.
No sir, This is not right.
Let me tell you what is Y status.
Y Status is soft close where is XX is hard close.
Hard close :
If shop order is closed manually ie., with F16 command, then status will change
as XX
Soft close :
If system recognizes that the job is completed , then system change status as
Y.
Under two conditions , system will identify as Shop Order completed.
1) During the Quantity and hours reporting in last operation of SO, if you say
operation completed, then system will do soft close.
2) If Shop order quantity received is more than or equal to Shop order Quantity

Order Status:
Displays the status of the shop order. Possible values are:
04 = Shop order is entered
05 = Shop order released and printed
14 = Shop order released/not printed
XX = Closed
