WE DO SOMETHING SIMILAR. WE PREPARE "OFFICIAL BILL OF MATERIALS" FROM BPCS
USING COPY - PASTE INTO A WORD DOC, HAVE IT SIGNED AND FILE AS AN OFFICIAL
DOC.

THEN, WHEN A BATCH RECORD IS ISSUED, THE APPROPRIATE BOM (USING EFFECTIVITY
DATE) IS ISSUED WITH THE BATCH RECORD.

IF FOR ANY REASON OPERATIONS HAS TO DEVIATE (BECAUSE INVENTORY FORCED AN
EFFECTIVITY DATE OUT OF WHACK) WHAT WE CALL A "DEVIATION (FAILURE TO FOLLOW
PROCEDURE, ETC.) IS REQUIRED.

WORKS PRETTY GOOD. HISTORICALLY WE HAD TO CHANGE BATCH RECORDS VERY
FREQUENTLY BECAUSE A LOT OF OUR PARTS (CARTONS FOR INSTANCE) ARE VOLATILE TO
CHANGES MADE BY MARKETING. BUT USING THIS SYSTEM, THE BATCH RECORD REMAINS
STABLE AND THE BOM CHANGES (MUCH EASIER TO ACCOMPLISH).

BUT WE DON'T ALLOW THE "USER" TO PULL THE BOM UP THEMSELVES. MUST USE
"CONTROLLED, SIGNED COPY".

Subject: Pulling BOM data from BPCS into MS Word Document

Business Problem: Detailed process instructions exist in MS Word for
products and this is dispatched to the plant for instructions. We want the
current BOM (MBM or FMA) from BPCS to be pulled into this document to use
as a shop packet. It seems that Mail Merge may be able to accomplish this.
Anyone have experience with this or doing something similar with MS Word or
MS Access where a user would enter an item number and shop order number and
it would retrieve the records from BPCS?
