There are several ways to run MRP ...
net change / full regeneration
kill planned orders & recreate them, or not

MRP will not plan stuff that is past due
for example, if you have brand new part BOM routings etc. whose effectivity
date is date you key it in & next day you key in customer order for the new
part & your lead times go back into past, MRP will not plan the portion of
the requirements that are past due at time of new order entry.

But you can setup your parts with date scheduling saying that there is no way
you can fill any order in say less than 10 days, without doing some kind of
rush order ... I am at home for my e-mail, not at office, so not convenient
for me to get you specific field names ... but you can find these MRP days in
CIC file & IIM file.

So if you have setup your items that way,
what happens is that the buyer accepts a customer order with a due date that
is impossible for your company to fulfill without doing a rush order on some
raw materials, or doing overtime in factory, or some such arrangement,
so then the MRP has a planning date of when you CAN make the requirements
without doing the high expense arrangements, with a reccommended reschedule
date of what's really needed to meet the buyer customer promise date,
then your planner can decide if the extra expense is justified
