Hi,
You have two options:
1. Use method codes
In this case you need to establish material method codes and tables, and in
BOM500 you need to create several BOM's for the same item, differentiated
by method code. This is useful, if your variants are standardised. In
SFC500 you can create shop order, using method codes.
2. Release shop order with change
In this case you have only the blank method in BOM, but when you create a
shop order in SFC500, you need to use F17 or F18 (release with changes).
Pressing one of these function keys, you will get the screen, where the
components are from BOM, but you can change the component quantity and/or
delete a component and add new one, etc.

On 4.05CD, is there such a thing as an alternate bill of material? My
bills
are simple - buy one, modify it and sell it. However, for various reasons,
we'd like to be able to substitute a different component once in a while -
like 30% of the time. Is there a way, without modifying the master-file
BOM, to request/allocate a different component for a particular shop order?
We're not running MRP - shop-floorf orders and scheduling are done
manually.
Thanks in advance - and my apologies if I'm asking a
many-times-asked-but-ignored-by-me question.......
