I did ultimately figure it out. For some reason the RAR field ARPTYP for
the affected records got set to a colon (:), not a "C" like the other good
records. The error message was misleading, indicating that it was a
locked record when, in fact, they were records with a key that didn't
match what the program was looking for. Weird, huh?!
I should have posted a message saying that the problem was no longer a
problem but it was Friday night at about 6:30 and I was ready for the
weekend to get started. Thanks everybody.
