Ryan - One option (not recommended) is to remove the keyboard mapping button from client access, but once you remove the "stock" keyboard mapping, you can find this by clicking the keyboard button and hit file and see the versions that have been saved. You need to do this on every workstation that is giving you trouble.

Our software engineer gave me the BPCS for 5.8 windows part.

Just to clarify, our issue isn't with people manually changing their
mapping. This happens on its own when they attempt to log in. It does
appear to be reverting to some stock keyboard settings where the Enter key
is now Field Exit. When this happens they put in a trouble ticket because
they can not log in to BPCS because the field exit key won't confirm their
password, it simply begins a new line. They then wait for us to walk over
and open the keyboard settings and open the as400.kmp file that is stored on
their computer.

Before I begin troubleshooting Client Access I wanted to clear up what we
are actually having trouble with. No one at our company wants to change
their mapping. Could you explain the "lock it down" theory?

confusing. I get people trying to tell me they are running iSeries access
6.0 and what they are really running is Personal Communications 6.0 which
comes with iSeries Access for Windows 7.1.

A lot of people like to customize their keyboard mapping. In the default
map the "End" key may act more like a Field Exit key versus how it
normally works with PC applications. Someone with a few grey hairs may
remap the Enter key to act like the Field Exit key and the right control
key to act like an enter key to have it feel more like an old dumb
terminal.

This makes it rough for help desk people to help them through an issue but
as the new person do you want to risk alienation by forcing
standardization?

Dan, how do you "lock this down"?

Ryan - The keyboard emulation is contained within IBM's Client access and
is inherent to the specific workstation. BPCS has no control over how the
specific workstation's keyboard is mapped.

Every workstation has its own as400.kmp file and the mapping can differ
dependent upon how the specific user has mapped their keyboard.

I'd advise that you lock down one copy of as400.kmp and replace each
workstation's version and that should fix your dilemma.

Just as a side note there's no such thing as BPCS 5.8 for windows.

Hope that this helps.

Subject: [BPCS-L] BPCS Keyboard Mapping

Hello,
I'm the new help desk intern at my company and this is my first time
working with BPCS. We are having a problem with our keyboard mapping that
I
would like some advice on. Sometimes when our users log in to BPCS they
aren't able to confirm their password because the keyboard mapping has
changed and the Enter key has another function. The way we fix this is
going in to the keyboard options and opening our as400.kmp file. Sometimes
this fixes the issue for a few days, other times it might happen the very
next day.

Also, a few times it will attempt to load a completely different path
with
no prompting. Instead of loading the path IBM/client
access/emulator/private/as400.kmp it will attempt to load Marka.kmp Any
help on why BPCS might not retain/load the path correctly would be
appreciated.

We are currently running BPCS 5.8 for windows.
