I recently bought the book C For RPG Programmers by Jennifer Hamilton (ISBN 0-9628743-6-1, publisher Duke Press) and have found that it's addressed most of the environment issues associated with running C on the AS/400. I'm sure there's situations it hasn't covered, however that's what the C-400 list is for.
PS. The book is expensive, $US69. Here in Australia it was &A198!! For about 270 pages). This is the only AS400 specific C book I have been able to find.

This example was of great interest for me.
Thanks, Phil.
And not because of ports fiddling, but because of DSM. It's a real
fun! I really like it, though never used before.
There reason why I decided to write here is one thing that bothers me
as long as I am writing on C/400 - 2 years.
When I read Frank Soltis book, I found out that OS/400 was mostly
written on C/C++. O'k, its my favorite language. I write it with
pleasure for more than 10 years.
What I could not ever understand is why C/400 is IBM's UNBELOVED
child? There is damned lot books on RPG, but why should I learned
this ill language?
Try to find a book, covering C/400! If you succeed, drop me a message
also!
I do not even want to talk on IBM manuals. They are written using a
language, ment not to explain things, but rather make them more
complicated. Examples are partly missing, partly they are wrong.
I picked up a manual, covering DSM, it is unreadable! What I did -
just experimented this and that way and written my first piece, that
reads a field from window, processes and prints there a result.
What's the matter, why there are books, similar to K&R, covering
C/400 specific features! I cannot evaluate RPG books, but at least
their amount makes me think, that you can select there
something.......
Sorry, may be it's out of theme, but I think, that this particular
community will understand and forgive me.....
