In this particular example I initialized len to strlen(testStr) which
excludes the null terminator, so there's no need to worry about null
terminator and hence no need for -1.
You're always guaranteed to put only valid data in the wrkFld2 buffer.

Maybe a minor detail, but wouldn't this be better as:

memcpy(wrkFld2, testStr, len > sizeof(wrkFld2) ? sizeof(wrkFld2) -1 : len);

That way you wouldn't lose that final null terminator if testStr happens
to be bigger than wrkFld2.
