You could simply use the figurative constant "QUOTE".

e.g.

string QUOTE
            "This is a great system."
            QUOTE delimited by size
   into new-string-value
end-string

Here's the info from the COBOL reference manual:

QUOTE/QUOTES
Represents one or more occurrences of the quotation mark character and
must be nonnumeric. QUOTE, or QUOTES cannot be used in place of a
quotation mark or an apostrophe to enclose a nonnumeric literal.

When APOST is specified as a compiler option, the figurative constant
QUOTE has the EBCDIC value of an apostrophe.

Hello, all.

Can anyone tell me how to string a " into a field? The " is used itself
in the string command, so if I try STRING " " " delimited by size etc, the

compiler/editor will not accept it.

Any good ideas?
