I question the need for the directory sync. However, let me state that we are
not using OV/400 mail for anything so we may be a special case. We just had
too many problems with dir sync that we disemboweled it from our system.

I've seen very little that an IPL doesn't end. In fact I can only think of one
program that stays running over an IPL. (Has something to do with receiving
spool files from remote 400's via the SNDNETSPLF).

I know that this doesn't answer your question. I hope you get your answer.

What problem are you trying to solve? Are you finding objects locked when you
try to perform a backup or something?

Subject: DNNDIRQS question

Does the directory sync program make "Exclusive Locks" on particular files? If
yes, would these locks be removed during an IPL? Example: If directory sync
was running during a power down, would a lock still be present at time of power
down that an IPL would not Unlock?
