What is the correct way to find what directory the Notes client is
installed into?

I have found it in the registery on my Win2k machine at key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lotus\Notes
And also HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lotus\Notes\5.0

I am targeting v4.6 so my guess is the first key. But is this the
"IBM/Lotus approved method"?

I need this so I know where find the DLL's when using a Notes C API
based application we are developing.
