RE: Moving to a new AS400

Dale,

If this were my problem, I would move the Domino server as is to the new
machine and change the system name to reflect the serial number of the
old box.  Then it would just become a matter of duplicating the IP
configuration on the new machine and setting up the original box with a
new IP configuration and a newly-named test environment.

If you have a requirement that the Domino server reflects the serial
number of the new machine, then I would segment the project into two
phases.  First I would configure the current machine with the name of
the new machine and make sure that it works effectively on that machine.
Then I would just move the configuration to the new machine.  My
preference would be to avoid all of the variables involved in switching
hardware platforms and renaming the server in the same phase.

This might be an appropriate time to do away with the serial number
concept.  You could avoid this situation in the future by renaming your
new server to something with reflects the functional role of the server
in your network so that it was hardware independent.

I'm not sure the business benefits of renaming the Domino server (either
to a new serial number or some other name) outweigh the costs associated
with the new name rippling through your network.
