There isn't a fool proof method for recovering an ID file, as it can only 
be generated once, but there you can recreate a new id.  The problem with 
the new ID is that it will have a different key-pair; the implication of 
this is if the user has encrypted email or you had given them an 
encryption key.  For the most part average users aren't using these 
features, so you have a pretty good chance for success. 

To recreate, delete the user from the address book using the delete key on 
the keyboard (don't use the delete action in the people view; this will 
generate a request to adminp to remove that user from ACL's which will 
come back to haunt the mail file the next day).  Re-register the user, 
using the exact same name as the user had previously.  Make sure that you 
go to the "advanced" options, and specify that the mail file have a 
different name (I usually just put a 1 after the name, i.e. David Hoff 
would be dhoff1.nsf).  As soon as the user is registered, open the users 
person document and change the "Mail File" from the temp name to the 
actual name (i.e. dhoff1.nsf to dhoff.nsf).  Once that has been done, go 
to the users workstation and detach the id file.  From the users 
workstation, clean up temporary mail file by opening it and deleting it. 
The user will then have their old mail file back.  They will be in all the 
same groups in the NAB, as they were before.

Hi,

We are running Domino 5.0.3 on an AS400 (v4r5m0) and have a problem with
one particular user id file.  We don't have a copy of the id file stored 
in
the NAB and we are getting the message "ID file - invalid file format and
is not supported".  Is there any way of recreating the id file or
recovering the data in the corrupt ID file?  Both our live and backup
verions of the file produce the same error.
