You can safely remove Websphere app server. Domino isn't really dependant
on anything else, other than TCP and with R6, the Java Toolkit. Sometimes
you must be careful with customers who use the Apache HTTP server with the
plugin for Domino, but again that would still be a different product. On
a side note, if you have a previous version of websphere standard edition,
IBM had a promotion that allowed to you get Websphere Express V5 free. Not
sure of the details, but press your local IBM'er for this.

Subject: 5769AS1 *BASE 5050 IBM WebSphere Application Server

On a DSD running our Domino based website I did a DSPSFWRSC and noticed:

Resource
   ID Option Feature Description
5769AS1 *BASE 5050 IBM WebSphere Application Server

Resource Feature
ID Option Feature Type Library Release
5769AS1 *BASE 5050 *CODE QAPPSVR V4R5M0

As far as I know, we are not using that particular product. And my boss'
reply was (Sametime conversation)
Rob Berendt/DE... While f@xxxxx around with GDWEB, do you want me to

remove the old WAS?
Chris Edwards/... If we are not using it for anything, then let's
remove it.
Rob Berendt/D... Oh sure, dump on me with the "if". Are we using
it for anything?
Chris Edwards/... I can't think of anything unless FTP or Domino
uses it

Now, on some of our other servers we are "playing" around with WAS. But
in that case we are running
5722IWE 2 5102 IBM WebSphere Application Server Express V5

So I think we loaded it on there at some time just in case.

Is this required for Domino in any manner that you can think of?

I know that FTP does not require it.
