I was being intentionally dense just to make sure I understood you.

In the Windows world, I would downgrade a server the same way I would
downgrade a client -- haven't tested this, though -- by removing the old
code as best I could and installing fresh with the "new" code.

The likelihood is that at least some files are checked during the
install/upgrade process for dates and the newest file date would win.
Since code from 6.5.3 would presumably be newer than 6.5.2, the 6.5.3 code
would remain, at least in part -- the problem being that it might not be
compatible with everything from 6.5.2.  With Windows, I would particularly
be concerned with DLL incompatibility.  I don't code for the iSeries, so I
don't know if there would be similar issues there, but would try to avoid
them, nevertheless.

It would be an intersting experiment to "update" down a release.  I hope
you have time to try it and let us know how it goes.

   after upgrading due to some Directory issues he encounte= red.  I was

   curious if similar functionality exists in the iSerie= s world.

   One of these days when time permits I'l= l create a new 6.5.3 server
   instance then try to "update" to 6.5.2
