I don't know why the suggestion you mention didn't work for you -- I've
done that in the past (with R4 and R5), but it's overkill.  I don't build
the machines anymore, but I tell the techs that do to copy the ID file,
names.nsf, bookmark.nsf, and desktop6.ndk and they seem to get along fine
with that plan.  They haven't expressed any complaints to me, anyway.  We
don't do anything unusual in the ini, so we don't copy it over.

If your users have local replicas or use the journal, you may want to copy
those files, as well.  That's generally not an issue for us here -- few use
the journal, and most just make a new replica on the new system -- or
realize they haven't been using the ones that they already had, anyway, so
they don't bother.

I have a notes 6.5.1 user who just got a new pc running XP pro. We
installed notes and using his id file from the old pc attempted to start
notes. Since a location document didn't exist all that info had to be
re-entered. Is there an easier way to migrate an existing user to a new
pc? One suggestion (from the domino 6 forum) was to copy the
lotus\notes\data directory and all it's contents to the new pc BEFORE
installing notes. We tried that and it didn't work. My thought is to
uninstall notes from the new pc, re-do the install and then copy the id
file, names.nsf and maybe notes.ini from the old pc to the new one before
starting notes.

Comments anyone?
