Pardon my stupidity (I am not a network guy), but how will that force
our mail out a specific interface?  We have several interfaces on this
machine connected (behind a firewall, using NAT, etc.) to the public
internet.  All of them are for serving websites, except for one that's
supposed to be used for getting/sending internet mail.

Our single default route looks like this:

     Route            Subnet           Next             Preferred
Opt  Destination      Mask             Hop              Interface

     *DFTROUTE        *NONE            xx.xx.xx.xx      *NONE
