If a client has the IP address in the connection document for the server,
it will use that, rather than DNS for name resolution.

remove the ip from the client connection document (it is optional) and the
clients will use the DNS to resolve the server name.

(I assume during dr the clients have access to a DNS which is pointing to
the new location of the domino server)

Subject
Disaster Recovery test - DNS resolution question

We're in the midst of our first DR implementation test. Currently we're
maintaining our dns server locally and have a BP who's hosting the
hardware we restored our R6.5 data on. We can ping the remote server so we

know were talking.

But were having a problem having users connect to Notes at the DR site.

We want our users to not notice that the server is no longer on site,

Apparently R6.5.1 is smart enough to know when our local site is up that
it won't even try to connect to the DR site. The only way we can force a
connect (while the local site is up) is to do a file, database, open, and
enter the IP address of the server at the DR site.

I'm not sure though, how to tell the notes clients that in the event that
our local server is not responding that it should look for the server at
the DR site. My thought is to enter Secondary Server info in the Advanced
setting of my location document on my client in the hope that it will use
it to refer to the DR site. If this works then I can use a desktop policy
setting to roll this info out to the clients. I'm going to test this
tonight.

Comments anyone?

Regards, Jerry
