Thanks. That gave me something to chew on. This works
ldapsearch -h ldap.dekko.com -b o=dekko "(cn=*berendt*)"

And, since I am trying to figure out how to get the photo field I tried
ldapsearch -h ldap.dekko.com -t -b o=dekko "(cn=*berendt*)"
Using the -t to create a list of file for fields it can't display (like
photo) in my current directory.
I searched the echo back and the list of new ldapsearch* files in my
directory and none look photogenic.

I forget how to tell the ldap server to serve up additional fields.
