I've gone from 6.5.3 to 8.5.1 directly with no issues. The 6.0.x should
work.

Here are some tips on the config:

1.

The second section describes the *current *client that is being
upgraded.
1.

If upgrading *from* a Notes 8.0.x Basic Client or a Notes 7.0.x
or earlier client, you must select “Notes Basic”. If
you're upgrading
*from* a Notes 8.0.x or later Standard Client, then select
“Notes Standard” here.
2.

In the Source versions field, you can choose to only upgrade
from “Release 7.0.3” or use a wildcard, such as “Release
7.0.*” for example.
Using * will allow the upgrade from any version earlier
than the Destination
version (see below).
3.

If the source version is 6.5.4 or earlier, choose “Yes” in the
corresponding field.

1.

Then the next section is where you specify the “Destination
version” of the client.
1.

This must correspond to the “Deploy version” listed in the
Policy.
2.

This is the area where the effective user policy is closely tied
to the Smart Upgrade kit database. It is possible that you
can create
multiple kits in the Smart Upgrade kit database. For
instance, if you have a
group of Notes 8.5.1 Standard users who need to have a
Hotfix (CCH) applied,
then their policy and Smart Upgrade kit would both be
“Release 8.5.1 FP1”.
(Although, at the time of this document, no FP1 has been
released for
8.5.1).

Oh and make sure you specify people in the administration tab who should be
allowed to receive the kit. If you leave it blank everyone could potentially
upgrade at the same time...

Chris

I have clients as old as 6.0.3. I want them running 8.5.1 standard when
done. Trying to do this with a smart upgrade kit. The kit has a question
about their source version, standard or basic, but not their destination
version. 6.0.3 only had basic. Do we lie and say source version was
standard, or is that checked to see if the client qualifies for this
upgrade kit?
Can a basic notes client at 6.0.3 be upgraded to the 8.5.1 standard, and
just the client (not admin and developer) using the same kit as someone
using the full admin/developer? If not how do I download just the 8.5.1
standard client from passport advantage? I can't seem to find it.
