Hi Carl, here are comparison points I hope you'll find helpful.

- much better scalability on IBM i rather than Windows, this will allow
the
total number of Domino servers required to be reduced
- Domino on Windows can only use up to 3 GB of memory (32-bit) and 8 GB of
memory (64-bit), Domino on i can use up to 2 TB of memory
- with Domino on i, you don't need to manage multiple servers (as with
VMware), as multiple Domino servers can run side-by-side on the i, with
each running in it's own subsystem
- Domino on i can run multiple versions of Domino on the same physical box
or the same LPAR, for example you can have a 6.5.6 server run side-by-side
with a 7.0.3 or 8.5.1 server, etc.
- all Domino servers running the same version of Domino share the
executables, this means that if a fix needs to be applied to one release
of
Domino, that fix only needs to be loaded once, all Domino servers using
that code base on that physical server or LPAR will get the update, this
is
a huge improvement over what it would take when loading fixes on each
individual Windows server in each VM partition
- you can have up to 99 Domino servers running on one IBM i physical box
or
LPAR
- IBM i is much more reliable than Windows
- with Domino on i, you can have one backup solution handle everything, I
think this would be significantly better than having to backup multiple
VMware servers

We are at the stage of trying to determine and convince the boss on the
best
platform to install Domino plus Quickr and Sametime. I'm the iSeries
bigot
with a belief in its superior stability and reliability and will only
concede to running active directory and citrix on the Windows servers. Our
network manager doesn't know the iSeries and is a like-minded Windows
bigot.
In the local area, there are only a couple of iSeries running Domino but
many Windows installs.

I'm looking for support for my view to implement on iSeries. Any facts,
suggestions or Windows-killing arguments would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe this has been covered many times on this site and if so, my
apologies
for not having found it.

Many thanks,

Carl Pitcher
