I have a sandbox lpar. I tested out this sql script on it
SELECT * FROM SYSTOOLS.GROUP_PTF_CURRENCY
ORDER BY ptf_group_level_available - ptf_group_level_installed DESC

and noticed we were behind on a few groups. Not many as we just put on
groups September 2015.
I ordered these groups with SNDPTFORD and when that was done ran
INSPTF LICPGM((*ALL)) INSTYP(*DLYALL)
This should load them and set them all to apply at the next IPL.

However...

I did a File, Open, IBM Notes application, and it couldn't connect to our
GDI01 server. Bad.
File, Preferences, Ports, Trace worked fine to GDI01. Good.
GDI01 could start replication with GDISYS01. Good.
GDISYS01 could start replication with GDI01. Good.
http://gdi01.... worked fine to get into Notes.
Dropped Domino server, deleted shared memory and semaphores, restarted it.
Had the same issue.
Restarted my PC. Had the same issue.
Performed an IPL on the lpar and the issue went away.

Apparently even just loading the PTF's for later apply can cause issues.

This is something we routinely do once a quarter.
