I know I could access the windows file directly from the iSeries (using /qntc if I'm not mistaken).

But I also know that this takes a loooooong time.  Especially if the iSeries is located here in Kontich and the file is in China.  And you want to retrieve the timestamp for 20+ files at the same time.

Also, the file will be in a directory that is protected from access by "regular" users, so I'd have to get around that security in some way.

Anyway, I have meanwhile found out that we can create web services in IBS Integrator, a tool we have already in-house, so I think we'll go that route.

Too bad, I'd have loved to get my hands on EGL for this.
