What happens if you try this:

update mydb.table1 t1 set t1.name = (select t2.name
from mydb.table1 t1, mydb.table2 t2 where t1.id = t2.id);

I don't think the dot versus slash matters here.  I do the slash in STRSQL
and the dot in JDBC all the time.
