If you can't obviously find it in Java, maybe it _isn't_ in Java.

Are you using SQL? The symptoms you give sounds like it is hung up in
some "deep" LIC function. A bit of "rouge" SQL could do that. So could
various other "toolbox" calls to system functions. Depending on how
these are implemented, they could be running out to some service job
that is actually taking up the CPU.

Try WRKACTJOB and the do the PF16 sort on the CPU per cent column while
this is happening or, better, WRKSYSACT. That should give a solid clue.
