Ah, I missed that it was not your code but the library. First of all, your life will be much easier if you can get Java 6 installed on the i and use that.

If not, I'd suggest you beat the jxl.jar into compliancy, which is rather tedious if the source wasn't written for it. The retrotranslator tool has worked well for us in a similar situation:

http://retrotranslator.sourceforge.net/

(remember the runtime in your classpath).
