Thanks to all who took the time to answer. I just wanted to know where this environment variable is set. I've found that on one of the machines it was set in .profile, and changing that gave me the J9 JVM (nice).

We have a wrapper around RUNJVA and my conclusion was that we now need to be able to explicitly set JAVA_HOME in that job. Before it was sufficient to set java.version in SystemDefault.properties as pointed to by QIBM_mumble.

I am still pondering on whether I think the JAVA_HOME way to indicate which JVM you want is an elegant solution or a dirty hack. Might even be both :)
