Hmmm,

Seems like that could be problematic assuming the jobs are being reused by
other calls into IWS.

Does production fail all the time or just occasionally?

Unfortunately, that's not feasible currently. The RPG code is being
invoked by IWS and setting environment variables has to be done in the RPG
code.
