Actually, a better question would be: Why does the IBM 5250 emulator for Linux exist when there is a very good open source TN5250 client that has a fine X interface? And, FWIW, this project existed well before IBM released their linux client. Darn ... I've had a similar discussion in the past when someone was questioning why MIDRANGE-L existed when there was a perfectly good newsgroup available (of course MIDRANGE-L existed before the newsgroup did).
