That got a little mangled. It might be better to download the patch from:

http://www.chowhouse.com/~james/x5250/pastepatch.patch

Note that this fixes the crash but a problem remains.

That means that x5250 no longer crashes, but it also
doesn't paste any text from gvim using the Edit->Copy method.

The fix works for me, thanks! I was only using Copy because the normal method didn't work, so that caveat is of no importance to me.
