Assuming you are automating this process, and don't need any sort of 
UI...  is there a reason why you can't use VT100 emulation?  It's much 
simpler to code than 5250.  It's not as nice for the user, but if you 
have no interactive user, that's probably a non-issue. The Telnet server 
on IBM i does support VT100 directly.

If you can't do that, then you are probably going to be writing your own 
terminal object that interfaces with the lib5250 code.  It's not REALLY 
that hard, but without any good examples or documentation, it'll 
probably be an uphill climb for you.
