I think this confirms some issues.

The best way in my opinion to run Sun Java under Ubuntu is to run "sudo 
apt-get install sun-java6-jdk" as this gives you automatic updates.  
This has worked very well for me under 9.04.


The default Java is (as far as I remember) based on OpenJDK which still 
has some quirks.
