Can't you just download the jdk for java1.6 from Sun? AtThe best way in my opinion to run Sun Java under Ubuntu is to run "sudo
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp, if you select to the
second section, you can download JDK 6 for Linux (or Linux64). Runs
Eclipse just fine.
