This is a multipart message in MIME format. -- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] Hi Konrad, We have found EPDM to very useful for our facility in that it provides two capabilities for us that we were not able to do (as easily) in PDM/PDM+. The first was alternate routings/bills. We run our product on two assembly lines, with two sets of workcenters (different departments). With EPDM, we got the ability to keep two sets of active routings available, and the planners can release orders for the product to go down either assembly line, or both at the same time. Previously, we had to do a bunch of maintenance to the routings to switch between lines. This is much easier. We have also found the multi-site option to be helpful. We produce a different product on a 3rd assembly line, and we run that line using demand flow production techniques. We keep a single level with blow through for the product in an "assembly site" for production, and a full indented bill for costing and purchase parts acquisition in the "main site" (MRP runs against the main site). This worked very well for MRP and production/inventory control, but has introduced a number of hassles in costing and for purchasing. It would be better if MAPICS could totally eliminate the ITEMASx files if you install EPDM, and just go with the ITMRVx files instead. We know what we have to do to keep everything synched correctly, but the users keep making errors. The conversion was a REALLY big task - a lot of files became either non-existant or obsolote. Was it worth it? Yes. Was it a lot of work? Definitely. Would I recommend everyone go to EPDM from PDM+? Heck no! You've got to need what it offers above and beyond PDM+. Given that you cannot stock, buy, use on the shop floor or sell a revision (without tons of manual intervention) what is EPDM's purpose as an application? In other words what are we missing? Or to put it another way, what cannot be handled by using item naming conventions and effectivity dates or just by using PDM+, the original progenitor of all the client applications? Also since MAPICS seems to be pushing procurement, order based production mgmt, materials management, and customer service management has anyone found any features in any of them worth the hassle and performance issues of implementing them? The most I see in the manuals, which are unfortunately rather brief is some copy functionality. Thanks in advance for any help!
