Inventory lifo/fifo

I Am working with several Accounts that would like to be assured of using
their Inventory in a lifo/fifo manner. Just wanted to see how some others
were handling this situation, given : If you turn on lifo/fifo in
mapics , it is across the board , (all items) they certainly do not want
to do this. Also, in a controlled W/H (locations) the receipt date does
get set, i.e. fifo date in slqnty record, however, unless the bin,
location for that item goes empty, another receipt of the same item to
the same location will carry the same date. Hmmm, I have used the B/L
number as the controlling mechanism.. lowers b/l # is earlier receipt,
and this is controllable by item. The only downsize is the b/l  has to be
assigned at receipt time, (RP, RM) it is not picked up automatically...

So again, given the above, has anyone come up with an alternative way to
control lifo/fifo, in a random location W/H environment. I'd be glad to
hear what your thoughts are.. THANKS.
