Have you considered Features and Options? It's free (included with COM),
and I'd think you could easily set up an option for length. One part
number, with a feature/option of how long it would be. Reporting can
fairly easily be done off the S-Number.
Possible alternative to a gazillion parts, and did I mention that it's
free? As in included with COM at no additional cost?
Not a frequent thing to discover today.....

Discussion
We create a different part number for each product we make, but it is out
of
control. Most items are the same type of product but different lengths, so
for example a piece of roofing that is 24" long has one part number and a
piece that is identical expect 26" long has a different part number. Does
anyone know a better way to handle this within MAPICS?
