Shawn,
I changed to backup to disk (away from backup to tape), and my backup
window shrank from 1 hour to 17 minutes. That can be scheduled directly
from MAPICS. I then do a regularly scheduled copy to tape using the
iSeries job scheduler (WRKJOBSCDE). The CL to replicate MAPICS' Copy Disk
Backup to Tape is:
PGM
INZTAP DEV(TAP04) NEWVOL(MSM001) NEWOWNID(FLTWOOD) +
             CHECK(*NO) /* Initialize tape */
SAVSAVFDTA SAVF(AMSLIB/SVDTAABCKM) DEV(TAP04) +
             ENDOPT(*LEAVE)
SAVSAVFDTA SAVF(AMSLIB/AMFBCKM) DEV(TAP04) +
             ENDOPT(*LEAVE) /* Save AMFLIB */
SAVSAVFDTA SAVF(AMSLIB/AMTBCKM) DEV(TAP04) +
             ENDOPT(*LEAVE) /* Save AMTLIB */
SAVSAVFDTA SAVF(AMSLIB/ZSVCTLBCKM) DEV(TAP04) +
             ENDOPT(*REWIND)
DSPTAP DEV(TAP04) OUTPUT(*PRINT) ENDOPT(*UNLOAD) /* +
             Generate tape directory listing */
ENDPGM
The DSPTAP produces a tape catalog listing with date that satisfies our
SARBOX people. TAP04 is my MagStar 3570 tape drive.

I'm assuming a backup to disk will save me considerable time vs. backup
to tape. Thoughts?

Subject: Backup to Disk
I know that there is an option to backup to disk using the MAPICS
backup. Is there a way to do a backup to an external storage (NAS or
Windows file share) using some option or redirection of the normal
backup.
thanks
