almost every language is self documenting - in the hands of a good
programmer.  In my humble opinion, and limited exposure, I've found that
cobol tends to confuse rather than illuminate when too many 88 level
conditions are used.  I find it a total hassle and a complete waste of
my time to be constantly going back to the 
w-s section to figure out what 
        
        "If THIS-WONT-WORK-UNLESS-YOURE-SMART Then" 
        
actually means...  AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!  

Just check for the value of a variable and be done with it!
