I think that is pretty much exactly what I was saying. Let's face it, what
happens is that because we don't want users trouncing the system every
time they have some idea about how a report can save the world, we don't
give them the access they want. Next thing you know, a company that
couldn't produce bug free code on a bet controls the market. Why? Because
they give the end user some control. A user would rather reboot six times
and get a report than wait six months for someone in MIS to write it for
them.

My point on this is that I think we AS/400 biggots should use available
solutions when necessary to provide better service to our users.

Isn't that a time related option? I haven't checked it in a long time, but
I could have sworn you can up the time limit that query uses for searching
access paths. I believe the reason for giving it a time limit is so that
it won't spend more time picking a path than the query would run if it
just read the twentyfive records involved.
