• Subject: Email on the AS/400

I have been lurking for about nine months, so my
approach is humble in grovelling to the mailing list
for information.

We have an AS/400 (510/RISC) running V3R6, soon
to be V3R7. Our users access the AS/400 via 5250
green-screen dumb terminals.

We need a decent email program for these users.

I have reviewed OfficeVision/JustMail400, NetMail400,
and Qmail, and they have all proven to be inadequate.

We need:

* a basic interface, with a minimal number of steps
required for sending and reading email
* a mechanism that notifys the user that they have
received email when they're in other programs
* a pop-up "address book" with the ability to alias
  email addresses
* connectiviy to our PC email system (MS Exchange)
or at least an SMTP gateway (AS/400 users could
  send pc users Internet email)
* file attachments (is there any way possible
to let green-screen AS/400 users view attached
MS Word documents, like Resoft's file conversion
  software for OV/400?)

If anyone has ANY ideas or leads, I would be much
obliged. I spent a lifetime on the phone and web,
and I haven't gotten anywhere. Why does it seem
that there isn't a decent green-screen email product
for the AS/400??

Thanks again.
