If I remember correctly, the 4226 has a parallel/serial interface, so I assume you are either attaching it to a twinax terminal or using some kind of twinax emulation box. Both of these methods require setting up a "printer pass-thru" character, many times the ESC or && of %% characters, which tells the terminal or emulation board to send the following characters directly through to the printer without trying to interpret them. Many twinax boards which privide IPDS or barcode fonts can also use the ESC character for their own built-in functions, and that may be the cause of the problem.
