Julie,

Is it redundant data or override/point of occurance data. The reason I
ask is that our order entry system contains an item cost. Now this
should be derived from the item master/balance whatever file. We keep
it to capture the cost at point of order picking. There are times when
point of occurance data is required.

It is not considered redundant since an hour later a shipment may come
in which changes the cost of inventory. But since this order is in
transit it is no longer in inventory and should not be affected by
subsequent changes to the inventory value.

Our data base is third normal form and from the surface it would appear
there is redundant data, but in fact there isn't.
