Number one priority (IS): maintain the data. The articles in this month's Midrange Computing magazine on AS/400 administration are excellent. (How to disable PC security snipped. Every business must decide between security and ease of use. Using passwords on everything is nice except when you have to enter it every time you get a cup of coffee. I like encryption even less than passwords for company-wide use. Who's the keykeeper? What happens when the controller gets mad and leaves, and you don't know the encryption password to the budget or expense files? This is company-owned data we're talking about, not personal notes. Personally, I like to be the "little Big Brother". Sure, go ahead and use passwords. Encrypt your files (if applicable). But tell me (the IS dir.) or the CFO or CEO the combinations to your locks. That's company data you're playing with. The company has a vested interest in knowing your passwords to our data. - lg - Loyd Goodbar MIS director Las Vegas Casino Greenville MS -- "Do you follow all their rules?" --Sydney "Do you break them all?" --Morgan lgoodbar@tecinfo.com ICQ#504581 www.tecinfo.com/~lgoodbar/ * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * This is the Midrange System Mailing List!
