Matthias states: "However, my CE has recommended I don't delete any of the above because I will have all new disks on the RISC box. He says that if for any reason we have to revert back to the original system, I can just put the old disks back in and be up and running as it was in no time.He also recommended not to exclude anything on the final save tapes. I must say, from a timing point of view excluding my unobservable objects and RPG wouldn't really make a difference. Space on the target system is not an issue either..." Your CE has a point about hooking up old disk. However, I would not waste the time saving junk and then restoring junk! If you have all the time in the world, fine but most people do not have that kind of time. One thing the road map does not cover is the Murphy Factor. Murphy visits many upgrades to RISC for many reasons. Murphy Time factor of 15-20% of estimated upgrade time should be planned for Murphy. Better be prepared. IBM does not mention Murphy but he likes all of us. I had a client who lost 12.5 hours to Murphy and object conversion was going to take 25+ hours. He was able to do it in 7 so he made up the time lost. He had not planned for Murphy visiting!!!!!! He was just one of the lucky ones. So count on the Murphy factor and follow Al's rules for upgrading that you also mentioned. Peter H. O'Connor PAE 7 Riverway Rd.
