Jeff - yes that is strange. In CFGTCP, Work with TCP/IP Interfaces, did
you have AUTOSTART(*YES) specified for the interface ?
We have 3 machines with TCP/IP running (one with T/R via FSIOP, one with
Ethernet adapter & one with TokenRing adapter). None of them have
ONLINE(*YES) specified for the controller/device used for TCP/IP (which
is the way they were all automatically configured by the system), yet
they all come up after an IPL (the startup program on all 3 machines has
STRTCP in it, and all TCP/IP interfaces were created with
AUTOSTART(*YES) - which is the default on ADDTCPIFC).
Start TCP/IP - Help
The Start TCP/IP (STRTCP) command initializes and activates TCP/IP
processing, starts the TCP/IP interfaces, and starts the TCP/IP
server jobs. A STRTCP command must be issued before any TCP/IP
processing can be performed on the AS/400. This includes Simple
Network Management Protocol (SNMP) agent processing.
The TCP/IP interfaces that are started are those that have set the
AUTOSTART parameter to a value of *YES using the Add TCP/IP
Interface (ADDTCPIFC) or the Change TCP/IP Interface (CHGTCPIFC)
commands.
Start TCP/IP Interface - Help
The Start TCP/IP Interface (STRTCPIFC) command starts a Transmission
Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) interface. The line
associated with the interface is varied on, if required.
This command can be used to:
o Start interfaces that have been specified with the
AUTOSTART(*NO) value on the Add TCP/IP Interface (ADDTCPIFC) and
Change TCP/IP Interface (CHGTCPIFC) commands.
