One of the programs reading from the data queue might get held up and one of the other ones might update the file out of order. Your'e right there...not everything goes into a data queue...now expand the file processing to other needs.. posting data from stores...posting batches with members...I have queue programs that the input is a file member name and the program that should run...sending spoolfiles to remote systems...we are writing one now to ease submitting jobs to remote systems...also have one doing on-line credit applications for 500+ sales people...we run 3 processing programs and they all are serviced, the other choice...each sales rep do their own...address validation for us is a key...each order entry rep now has 6 or 7 extra libs in the jobd to do validation..we will pull that apart and let a que program do the validation and just send answers back and forth....
