Benefits include decreased DASD utilization (you were right).  Downsides
include slower response time, although newer systems CAN make this effect
negligible.

ONLY if your writes outnumber your deletes.

If you have a data warehousing-type application where a HUGE file receives a
HUGE number of deleted records on a regular basis, DON'T use it.  "Filling in
the holes" can be as slow as Juris' desire to fill in holes using a 3GL
application.  If you delete a large number of records at one time, RGZPFM is
still your best bet...
