You could attatch a MFCU for card I/O.  Monthly we would punch out the 
receivables as cash receipts cards and create a tub file so that when
payments came in someone just pulled the appropriate card for the
invoice being paid and fed it through.  Eliminated keying errors. 
Pretty low tech, but cards did have their place.

IMHO the S/32 got its roots from this model.
