I totally agree with KAHN's statements and his strategy. It is safe to protect the physical files and use the logicals for all the programs. I know that having more logicals is an overhead but it is certainly worth having the overhead rather than spending time and resources on changing all files, logicals, programs ..etc. This is true particularly in case of large shops. The client I am working now has many AS/400s and has huge applications and the applications use many master files. Most of them are high usage files. With the new Y2K changes, the client is following the above standards. This will surely protect their investment in the long run!!! These are my opinions.
